5 Garden Design Trends for Summer 2021

House

Summer is approaching, which means it’s time to invest in your garden. For those already with an established design, this is mostly just filling in the edges or perhaps replacing species that didn’t quite settle and bed in the way they were supposed to. For those with a blank slate, 2021 is your year. There are so many great garden design trends to choose from. You can work off them, or you can copy them. Either way, it’s time your garden space was invested in the way that it should be. From water features all the way to the best plants to invest in, you cannot go wrong with these five great garden design trends for summer 2021.

Make Your Garden Bee-Friendly

These pollinators have always been critical to ecosystems, but they have gained new respect in recent years as the bee population has suffered. While the biggest impact will, of course, come from the government banning bee-killing pesticides, people can all do their part in supporting their local bee populations, too. Focus on bee-friendly and local flowers in your gardens, and even add bee hotels for solitary bees (not all of them live in hives) to care for your local pollinators.

Add a Water Feature

It isn’t just bees that matter. Frogs, toads, and birds also play critical roles in the ecosystem, and you can help them outright in your own backyard by installing a pond. Water features like ponds are also excellent to add beauty and tranquility to your garden space. They are great homes for a variety of creatures, acting as both a home and a place to drink. Just remember that you need to keep your pond healthy, which means adding pond filters from Water-garden.co.uk and ideally other fountain features to keep the water moving and clear.

Think Vertically and Add Level Interest

Regardless of how large your garden is, you are going to want to think vertically. This is a great way to add dynamic elements and make the most out of your space, from adding vertical gardens directly to your fence or the face of your property to thinking in terms of height to the plants you invest in.

Another great way to do this is to add split levels to your garden. This way, you can add more vertical appeal, even without going to great lengths to find large trees or hedges. Split levels are one of the most popular trends of the season.

Add Natural Design Elements for Harmony

When picking what materials to use for the man-made elements of your garden, stick with natural materials. Brick, certain metals, wood, and stone are going to look best in your garden.

Add a Kitchen Garden

Kitchen gardens are the oldest of all gardens. To maintain a kitchen garden, you need raised beds or a greenhouse. The goal is to plant and grow many edible plants. Done right, you will be able to harvest fresh, organic, and utterly delicious fruits and vegetables right from your backyard. They are great for local wildlife and for your family, too.
